May 2018 NEWS and SHOOT RESULTS

It was a pretty nice day for a shoot. The calm before the storm as it were since we then got 5 solid days of rain.

There were only two pistol shooters this month, John Marhefka and JP Sherkus. JP was very consistent shooting a 47X at 25 yards and 46X at 50 yards against John’s 44X and 38. So JP took First Place with John in Second.

At 25 yards the first rifle target was the Standing Groundhog. John Marhefka and JP Sherkus both scored 28 but this time John struck closest to the X. John Marhefka took First Place with JP Sherkus in Second. Third Place belonged to Tony Sucher with 26. Jim Ellis and Mike Rodzianko tied at 25 but Jim Ellis won Fourth Place with a hit closer to the X.

Vertigo was next and the Dizzy Deans of the Round Ball came forth. Mike Rodzianko took First Place with 28. JP Sherkus was right behind in Second Place with 27. Then came Jim Ellis in Third Place with 26 and at 24 was John Marhefka for Fourth Place.

The final 25 yard target was the Soccer Ball with those BIG score zones. John Marhefka turned in a fantastic 60. Two relays later Tony Sucher turned in a 70 only to find JP Sherkus turning in a 100. WOW!! First Place went to JP Sherkus. Second Place was Tony Sucher and Third Place belonged to John Marhefka. Mike Rybak took Fourth Place.

At 50 yards someone found an oblong bullseye dubbed the Egg Bull. JP Sherkus wasn’t fooled and took First Place with a 20. John Marhefka was in Second Place with 19 while Frank Niccoli was Third with 18. Jim
Ellis and Tony Sucher both scored 15 but Jim Ellis won Fourth with a closer to the X shot.

The final target of the day and the “Perfect 50” target was the Standing Bear. No one scored a 50 but Mike Rodzianko turned in a very nice 47 for First Place. Second Place was JP Sherkus with 41X. Third Place belonged to John Marhefka with a 34X. Art Twichell and Frank Niccoli tied at 31 but Art Twichell took Fourth Place with a closer to the X shot.

We may need to have the Soccer Ball as a target when JP isn’t attending because he was the high, HIGH score of the day. HIGH Score belonged to JP Sherkus at 216X. Sec-ond was John Marhefka at 164X. Third was Mike Rodzi-anko at 150 and Fourth was Tony Sucher at 132. Frank Niccoli had a 132 also but declared the Groundhog was the hardest target and Tony had a better score on that target. Also, Tony’s shoulder gave out and he couldn’t shoot the Bear so he only had 4 targets turned in. Then was Jim Ellis (128), Art Twichell (106), Mike Rybak (82) and John Arpin (71).

In the TOP SHOT 2018 Competition for the powder horn JP Sherkus is still in the lead, but Frank Niccoli and John Marhefka are close behind. Remember, your six highest total scores in 2018 matches will be counted for the prize.

The next match will be June 17, 2018. It will be an AGGREGATE Target Competition. FATHER’S DAY SHOOT – GRAB THE KIDS AND COME OUT. NO MATCH FEE.

You get 3 of each rifle target and, if competing, three of each pistol targets. Score your own, hand in your best. Please, do not stock pile or delay handing in your targets. You have 3 of each. After you shoot your best score of the three and score your own, turn it in so we can keep the score sheet current. All shots are from the free-standing, off-hand position. Shooting begins at 8 AM and ends at 12 PM.

Relays are approximately 20 minutes each. Any safe muzzle loader (flint, cap, firelock, side slapper, under hammer, inline) may be used. Iron sights (open, peep, aperture) only, no scopes or optics permitted. Spotting scopes may be used.

Subject to change without notice—generally there are 5 targets, some requiring 5 shots, some only 3. Expect the unexpected and have a bundle of fun. Usually distances are 25 and 50 yards.

Usually does not mean always. :o) and our Schutzen-meister promises something “interesting”. Cue the evil laughter

Keep yer powder dry.
