NEWS and SHOOT RESULTS
In the absence of Schutzenmeister Casy Rybak the Mystic Range Officer Art Twichell selected targets. In the future he can have his mushrooms and kimchi, but we HAVE to keep him away from target selection.
AT 25 YARDS:
The first target was the 3 Frying Pans. JP Sherkus managed a 19X for First Place. Second Place belonged to Tony Sucher with 19. Then Kevin Collins took Third Place with 18X and at 18 John Marhefka had a better target than Frank Niccoli for Fourth Place.
Next was the Rubic Cube for 3 shots. Tony Sucher found a 30 for First Place followed by Rob Capp with 27 at Second Place. Third Place was a 25 by JP Sherkus and Fourth was John Marhefka with 22.
Finally, the Invisible Squirrel made a brief appearance. Pete Hansen found him with a 44 for First Place. Second was John Marhefka with 40. Third belonged to Rob Capp and JP Sherkus got Fourth with 37.
AT 50 YARDS:
The Running Groundhog flashed across the field and Pete Hansen again showed his skill at difficult targets with a 41X and First Place. Art Twichell was Second with 37 and Kevin Collens got 36 for Third Place. JP Sherkus was Fourth with 35.
Just to make sure the final target of the day was the Groundhog head. JP Sherkus settled the score with a 30 and First Place, but Pete Hansen was close behind with 29 for Second Place. Close behind him was Rob Capp with a 28 and Frank Niccoli came in Fourth with a 26.
Pistol Match:
There were only 3 Pistol Shooters this time. At 25 yards Kevin Collins turned in a blistering 45XXX, but John Marhefka did a 47. JP Sherkus was in the fight with a 43. At 50 yards JP Sherkus turned in another 43 (talk about consistent!!!) and so did Kevin Collins. John Marhefka was slightly off the pace with a 38. That gave Kevin Collins, First Place with 88XXX, JP Sherkus, Second Place with 86 and John Marhefka, Third Place with 85.
Match Totals:
The Top Rifle Shot for the day was JP Sherkus with 146X. Second was Rob Capp with135. Pete Hansen was Third with 128X and John Marhefka was Fourth with 127. Then came Kevin Collins, Frank Niccoli, Art Twichell and Tony Sucher (only 3 targets completed).
In the TOP SHOT 2018 competition for the powder horn JP Sherkus has taken the lead, but Pete Hansen is only 7 points behind. Remember, your six highest total scores in 2018 matches will be counted for the prize.
Next Match:
The next match will be March 18, 2018. It will be an INDIVIDUAL Target Competition. The match fee will be $20. You get 3 of each rifle target and, if competing, three pistol targets. Score your own, hand in your best. Please, do not stock pile or delay handing in your targets. You have 3 of each. After you shoot your best score of the three and score your own, turn it in so we can keep the score sheet current. All shots are from the free-standing, off-hand position. Shooting begins at 8 AM and ends at 12 PM.
Relays are approximately 20 minutes each. Any safe muzzle loader (flint, cap, firelock, side slapper, under hammer, inline) may be used. Iron sights (open, peep, aperture) only, no scopes or optics permitted. Spotting scopes may be used.
Subject to change without notice—generally there are 5 targets, some requiring 5 shots, some only 3. Expect the unexpected and have a bundle of fun. Usually distances are 25 and 50 yards.
Usually does not mean always. :o) and our Schutzenmeister promises something “interesting”. Cue the evil laughter
Keep yer powder dry.
