NEWS AND SHOOT RESULTS

If your firearm fails to fire, remember to hold your position and aim down range. It can go off at any time. Give it a slow count to at least 15 just in case the load is cooking off. Keep the muzzle pointed down range; put the rifle on the bench; pull back the hammer and check the pan or cap to make sure it ignited. Pick the vent or nipple; Prime or cap and try to fire again. Repeat if necessary. Add a little powder into the nipple. If nothing hap-pens or you are unsure, signal the Range Safety Officer for assistance or have another shooter do so.

The sun was bright, the temperatures stayed in the 70’s, there was just enough wind to move the smoke and good company came to shoot.

Tony Sucher got an email from the young man (Justin Burk) who bought his heavy bench rifle and equipment. With one day of practice he participated in the Ohio State Championships and took Second Place. The rifle has a good home.

The first target at 25 yards was the Fleu-De-Lis. Unfortunately I didn’t keep track of the tie-breakers, just the scores. At 47 there was John Marhefka and JP Sherkus. Art Twichell, Mike Kingsley were at 46. Then Mike Rodzianko stood alone at 42 while Frank Niccoli, Al Short and Dwight Hlustick scored 41.

For the 3 Turkey Heads Al Short was alone in First Place with 27, but close behind were Art Twichell at 26 for Second and Mike Rybak in Third with 25. Then we dropped to 23 with John Marhefka, JP Sherkus and Frank Niccoli. Last at 25 yards was the closest to the X Mosquito. With 12 shooters the closest was awarded 12 points, next was 11, next was 10, etc. Measurements were in millimeters. Al Short was First with 7.5mm. Really close was Frank Niccoli at 7.75mm. Then came Mike Rodzianko at 9.75mm and Jim Ellis at 13.00mm.

At 50 yards the first target was the [front] Half Fox that no one seemed to be able to hit. JP Sherkus took First Place with a 30X. Second Place went to Frank Niccoli at 29. A 27 by Dwight Hlustick got Third Place. Kevin Collins took Fourth with 23X.

The Standing Bear was the final target and the NMLRA “Perfect 50” target for the match. No one got a 50 but Kevin Collins shot a 47 and took First Place. An amazing 43X by Art Twichell got him Second Place while Frank Niccoli’s 37XX took Third Place. Dwight Hlustick rounded things out with a 36X and Fourth Place.

There were five shooters in the Pistol Competition, and two ties to break. Kevin Collins and JP Sherkus both shot an 80X for the first tie. Kevin took First Place on a narrow margin with the tie breaker. Third Place belonged to John Marhefka with a total score of 79. Then Mike Rodzianko and Mike Kingsley shot identical scores at 25 AND 50 yards to tie at 78 total. The tie-breaker put Mike Rodzianko in Fourth Place and Mike Kingsley in Fifth Place.

The top shoot for the match with a score of 139XX was Frank Niccoli. JP Sherkus wasn’t far behind with 136X while Al Short came through with a 130. Dwight Hlustick was in the mix with 127 and Kevin Collins scored 126X. Art Twichell also had 126X but Kevin’s Fox Score was better to break the tie. Then came John Marhefka at 122 and Mike Rodzianko at 121. Wrapping up were Mike Kingsley, Mike Rybak, Jim Ellis and Keith Dorset.

In the TOP SHOT 2018 competition JP Sherkus is still ahead in points followed by John Marhefka, Frank Niccoli and then Mike Rodzianko. JP Sherkus has won 3 matches so far this year while John Marhefka has won two. Frank Niccoli and Al Short have both won one.

The next match will be August 19, 2018.

It will be an AGGREGATE Target Competition. You get 3 of each rifle target and, if competing, three of each pistol targets. Score your own, hand in your best. Please, do not stock pile or delay handing in your targets. You have 3 of each. After you shoot your best score of the three and score your own, turn it in so we can keep the score sheet current. All shots are from the free-standing, off-hand position. Shooting begins at 8 AM and ends at 12 PM.

Relays are approximately 20 minutes each. Any safe muzzle loader (flint, cap, firelock, side slapper, under hammer, inline) may be used. Iron sights (open, peep, aperture) only, no scopes or optics permitted. Spotting scopes may be used.
Subject to change without notice – generally there are 5 targets, some requiring 5 shots, some only 3. Expect the unexpected and have a bundle of fun. Usually distances are 25 and 50 yards.

June News and Shoot Results

NEWS and SHOOT RESULTS

The Father’s Day shoot lacked the team of Mike and Mikel Kingsley, but they were busy. On Sunday Mike’s daughter, Deanna, presented him with a 7# 2 oz grandson named Cooper. Congrats Grandpa Mike and Uncle Mikel. And special congratulations to Deanna and family. Word is Mike’s waiting to see if Cooper is right handed or left handed before starting a suitable flintlock.

We had a pack of people at the shoot. Phil Stovall and his wife came all the way from St. Michaels Island to shoot with us. Phil brought a beautiful rifle and his wife brought delicious brownies!

Richard and Bob Drake came by to see what we were all about. Then Art loaned them a rifle and they joined in on the fun. Keith Dorset also dropped by and Art did the same thing to him. And if that wasn’t enough Peter Dannenberg came by with his son, Lukas, and daughter, Sophia. Art set them up, gave them some instruction and pointers and there were bright smiles on that end of the range. Welcome to all. Hope you come back and join us some more.

On top of that, on position 7 Tony Sucher had his heavy bench rifle all set up. That got a lot of attention as few people had ever seen such a monster. Justin Burk and his shooting mentor, Howard, drove near 6 hours from PA to see and buy the rifle. Good shootin’, Justin!!!

For the Pistol Shooters; At 25 yards John Marhefka scored 46XX and nobody could catch him. Mike Rodzianko had a 43 and JP Sherkus had a 40. At 50 yards John had 35 to 31 by JP and 27 by Mike. So John Marhefka took First Place with 81XX, JP Sherkus was Second with 71 and Mike Rodzianko was Third with 70.

June was an Aggregate match. At 25 yards for 3 shots was the Invisible Squirrel. JP Sherkus took First Place with a 30 while Jim Ellis was Second with 28. Phil Stovall and John Marhefka both had 27.

Next was the Buffalo for 3 shots. Dwight Hlustick and Rich Stock both had 30 while John Marhefka and Rob Capp both had 27.

For 5 shots was the Pheasant (grouse to some). John Marhefka shot a 49 3X for First. Mike Rodzianko was Second with 48 X. Rich Stock got 47 2X for Third and JP Sherkus was Fourth with 45.

At 50 yards for 3 shots was the Groundhog Head that nobody likes except JP. A 30 gave JP Sherkus First Place. Second went to John Marhefka with 26. Then came Al Short with 20X and Rob Capp with 19.

The final target for 5 shots was the EGG. JP Sherkus came out on top with 49X. Then John Marhefka and Mike Rodzianko both scored 46X while Phil Stovall had 46.

In the Aggregate, John Marhefka was First with 175 4X. JP Sherkas was Second with 164 1X. Rich Stock came in Third with 158 4X and Rob Capp was Fourth with 155. After some confusion with his score Dwight Hlustick came next with 151 3X, then Phil Stovall (151 2X), Mike Rodzianko (149 3X), Al Short (139 4X), Frank Niccoli (116), Jim Ellis (114 2X), Richard Drake (46), Art Twichell (23) and Bob Drake (13).

In the TOP SHOT 2018 Competition for the powder horn. Due to the July Soccer Ball, JP Sherkus is still in the lead. John Marhefka and Frank Niccoli have swapped positions and are creeping up on JP. Art Twichell is in the running too. Remember, your six highest total scores in 2018 matches will be counted for the prize.

The next match will be July 15, 2018. It will be an INDIVIDUAL Target Competition. May News and Shoot Results

The June 17th Father’s Day Shoot will be a FREE shoot. There will be NO entry fee for members or non-members. Grab the kids and come on out for a day of fun.

May 2018 NEWS and SHOOT RESULTS

It was a pretty nice day for a shoot. The calm before the storm as it were since we then got 5 solid days of rain.

There were only two pistol shooters this month, John Marhefka and JP Sherkus. JP was very consistent shooting a 47X at 25 yards and 46X at 50 yards against John’s 44X and 38. So JP took First Place with John in Second.

At 25 yards the first rifle target was the Standing Groundhog. John Marhefka and JP Sherkus both scored 28 but this time John struck closest to the X. John Marhefka took First Place with JP Sherkus in Second. Third Place belonged to Tony Sucher with 26. Jim Ellis and Mike Rodzianko tied at 25 but Jim Ellis won Fourth Place with a hit closer to the X.

Vertigo was next and the Dizzy Deans of the Round Ball came forth. Mike Rodzianko took First Place with 28. JP Sherkus was right behind in Second Place with 27. Then came Jim Ellis in Third Place with 26 and at 24 was John Marhefka for Fourth Place.

The final 25 yard target was the Soccer Ball with those BIG score zones. John Marhefka turned in a fantastic 60. Two relays later Tony Sucher turned in a 70 only to find JP Sherkus turning in a 100. WOW!! First Place went to JP Sherkus. Second Place was Tony Sucher and Third Place belonged to John Marhefka. Mike Rybak took Fourth Place.

At 50 yards someone found an oblong bullseye dubbed the Egg Bull. JP Sherkus wasn’t fooled and took First Place with a 20. John Marhefka was in Second Place with 19 while Frank Niccoli was Third with 18. Jim
Ellis and Tony Sucher both scored 15 but Jim Ellis won Fourth with a closer to the X shot.

The final target of the day and the “Perfect 50” target was the Standing Bear. No one scored a 50 but Mike Rodzianko turned in a very nice 47 for First Place. Second Place was JP Sherkus with 41X. Third Place belonged to John Marhefka with a 34X. Art Twichell and Frank Niccoli tied at 31 but Art Twichell took Fourth Place with a closer to the X shot.

We may need to have the Soccer Ball as a target when JP isn’t attending because he was the high, HIGH score of the day. HIGH Score belonged to JP Sherkus at 216X. Sec-ond was John Marhefka at 164X. Third was Mike Rodzi-anko at 150 and Fourth was Tony Sucher at 132. Frank Niccoli had a 132 also but declared the Groundhog was the hardest target and Tony had a better score on that target. Also, Tony’s shoulder gave out and he couldn’t shoot the Bear so he only had 4 targets turned in. Then was Jim Ellis (128), Art Twichell (106), Mike Rybak (82) and John Arpin (71).

In the TOP SHOT 2018 Competition for the powder horn JP Sherkus is still in the lead, but Frank Niccoli and John Marhefka are close behind. Remember, your six highest total scores in 2018 matches will be counted for the prize.

The next match will be June 17, 2018. It will be an AGGREGATE Target Competition. FATHER’S DAY SHOOT – GRAB THE KIDS AND COME OUT. NO MATCH FEE.

April News and Shoot Results

The day started off a little cool but it warmed up nicely and was a great day for a shoot.

Our Director of Tardi-ness, Dwight Hlustick, came out—late of course—to has-sle and kibitz. We put him to work scoring targets. Welcome back, Dwight. It was good to see you up and around.

Early in the match Al Short had difficulty with that beautiful rifle of his. Fortunately he had a second rifle that he could use to complete the match.

The first target at 25 yards was the Turkey Head fo r 5shots.  Since Dwight was scoring we don’t know how he broke ties so we’ll just report of the best order of scores. Art Twichell managed a 48XX for the top score. JP Sherkus and Max Kingsley both scored 48X while Tony Sucher scored 48.

The second target for 3 shots was the creepy looking Pheasant. The top score belonged to Tony Sucher at 30X. JP Sherkus was right behind with 29X followed by John Marhefka and Art Twichell at 29.

The third target was unique. It was the closest to the X Mosquito for 1 shot. Placement was decided by measuring the distance from the X to the center of the hole. Shooters had to include their caliber on the target for the scorer. Max Kingsley was the closest  with 11 mm.Frank Niccoli was next with 14.75 mm. Then came John Marhefka with 19.5 mm and JP Sherkus with 20mm. Since there were 9 shooters the top shot was award-ed 9 points, next was awarded 8, next was awarded 7, etc.

The first target at 50 yards was the crazy box with Boxes. Mike Rodzianko scored 24. JP Sherkus was close behind with 22. Tony Sucher and John Marhefka both scored 21.

The Standing Bear was the last target and the NMLRA“Perfect 50” target. There was no 50 but John Marhefka scored a 43XXX. Art Twichell came in with 38XX while Max Kingsley scored 37X. JP Sherkus was at 36XX.

Total scores gave John Marhefka First Place with 145 XXX,Second went to JP Sherkus with 141XXXX. Third Placewas Tony Sucher with 135XXX followed by Art Twichell at 134XXXX. Then Max Kingsley (131XX), Mike Rodzi-anko (121XX), Frank Niccoli (118X), Mike Rybak (90) and Al Short (73X).

The pistol match was pretty tight at 25 yards. JP S h erkuscame in with48X. Close behind was John Marhefka with47XX. Then came Max Kingsley with 46 and Mike Rybak with 41. However, the tale was told at 50 yards. JP Sherkus scored
44 and Max Kingsley couldn’t break out scoring 41. John Marhefka scored 37X and Mike Rybak got 14.

The final tally gave JP Sherkus 92X followed by Max Kingsley with 87. Then came John Marhefka with 84XXX and Mike Rybak with 55.

In the TOP SHOT 2018 Competition for the powder horn JP Sherkus is still in the lead, but Art Twichell has closed the gap with Frank Niccoli and John Marhefka close behind. Remember, your six highest total scores in 2018 matches will be counted for the prize.

The next match will be May 20, 2018. It will be an INDIVIDUAL Target Competition. The match fee will be $20.

Iron sights (aperture or open) are used – no “glass” (no scopes or apertures with lenses).

Keep your power dry,

Tony

January 2018 News and Shoot Results

2017 Year in Review

Interesting things from 2017. Of our 54 members only 24 actually shot in a competition. Art Twichell and Frank Niccoli were the only competitors to shoot in all 11 matches (There was no April match due to Easter). Tony Sucher was there for every match but only shoots the aggregate matches due to time constraints. JP Sherkus only missed October. We picked up 6 new members for 2018 and 4 other people are interested. Hopefully they will be interested in joining AF-IWLA also. The TOP SHOT for 2017 was JP Sherkus but Art Twichell, Max Kingsley and Mike Rodzianko were dogging his heels.

Important news for 2018

First, the Father’s Day Shoot on June 17th will be a FREE shoot. That’s right, there will be NO competition fee for members OR non-members.

Second, the budget for prizes has been increased by $50.

Third, Jay Forman has donated a beautiful powder horn which will be awarded to the 2018 TOP SHOT. Your 6 highest match aggregate scores will determine your rank.

January 2018 Shoot Results

It was a balmy 32°F to start the match. There was bright sun and not a breeze was stirring. No breeze means the smoke just hung there for a long time. Al Short brought a beautiful side-slapper that he’d built as a light bench rifle, and it served him well as you’ll see.

The first target at 25 yards was the 3 Critters. JP Sherkus scored a 30X for First while Al Short scored 24 for second. After that came Art Twichell at 22 for Third, Dwight Hlustick at 19 for Fourth.

Next was Odds & Ends, another three shot target. Al Short “smoked” the competition with a 45 for First. Second was a 32 by Frank Niccoli. Third belonged to JP Sherkus with 26 and Fourth was Rob Capp with 26.

Last was the Standing Groundhog for 5 shots. Max Kingsley got a beautiful group and scored a 45 for First. Second went to Art Twichell right behind with 44. A 43XX earned Third for Kevin Collins and Fourth was won by Pete Hansen with 43X.

At 50 yards we started with the 25 yard Standing Buffalo. For First Place Mike Rodzianko scored a 23 with a hit that just missed the X in the head. That put Al Short with his 23 into Second Place. Pete Hansen scored a 20 with a close to the X for Third leaving Art Twichell in Fourth with his 20.

The last target was the NMLRA 50 Pin Standing Bear. No one scored a 50 but Dwight Hlustick took First with a 44X. Mike Rodzianko was close behind with 41X for Second. Then Pete Hansen with 41 for Third. Then we drop to 34X by Max Kingsley for Fourth.

The Pistol Competition was hot and heavy with 5 shooters. At 25 yards it looked like Max Kingsley was going to take the day starting with 46 over Mike Rybak and Kevin Collins at 44. But JP Sherkus was close with 43. At 50 yards Max could only manage a 36 while Mike Rybak scored another 44. JP proved to be consistent with a 40 but Kevin was more consistent with a 45. Final tally was Kevin Collins in First Place with 89. Mike Rybak in Second with 88. JP Sherkus in Third with 83. Max Kingsley in Fourth with 82 and Mike Rodzianko in Fifth with 72.

TOP SHOT honors went to Al Short and his side-slapper with 147. Second was Pete Hansen with 142X. Then came Dwight Hlustick 135XXX, JP Sherkus 132X, Art Twichell 129, Max Kingsley 127XX, Mike Rodzianko 127X, Kevin Collins 126XXXX, Frank Niccoli 121, Rob Capp 110, Casey Rybak and Mike Rybak.

Which means that Al Short is the early leader in the race for the Jay Forman Powder Horn. GO AL !!!!

The next match will be February 18 2018. It will be an AGGREGATE Target Competition. The match fee will be $20. You get 3 of each rifle target and, if competing, three pistol targets.

Subject to change without notice—generally there are 5 targets, some requiring 5 shots, some only 3. Expect the unexpected and have a bundle of fun. Usually distances are 25 and 50 yards.

Usually does not mean always. :o) and our Schutzenmeister promises something “interesting”. Cue the evil laughter

December 2017 Shoot Results

December 2017 NEWS and SHOOT RESULTS

The final match of 2017 was much nicer than the annual Turkey Shoot. It started off a bit cool at 25°F but quickly got up to 43°. Humidity slowly dropped as it got warmer and the barometer was steady at 30.30 inHg. It was calm and clear with the clouds holding off until after the match.

Welcome to new member Peter Dassira! Peter showed up with his girlfriend, Lori, and a beautiful Vincent rifle and worked on finding a load. He’ll be competing soon enough.

Pistol Results

For the Pistol Match we had FIVE shooters!! John Marhefka had been working hard with his pistol and finally had it where it was very accurate. Kevin Collins was confident. At 25 yards it was anybody’s game with John Marhrfka at 45X, Kevin Collins at 45, JP Sherkus and Mike Rodzianko both at 42 and Mike Rybak at 41.

At 50 yards John Marhefka turned in a 32 for a final score of 77X and First Place. JP Sherkus did 35 for a 77 and Kevin Collins did 22, also for a 77. With the higher score at the longer distance JP took Second Place and Kevin took Third. Mike Rodzianko turned in a 31 for a total score of 73 and Fourth Place. Mike Rybak had technical difficulty and didn’t turn in a target and so scored 41 and Fifth Place.

Pistol competitions are going to get interesting.

Rifle Competition

AT 25 YARDS:

Odds and Ends was the first target with 1 shot per critter. Art Twichell took First Place with 36. Second Place went to John Marhefka with 33. A score of 22 got Frank Niccoli into Third Place while JP Sherkus and Kevin Collins tied for Fourth with 20.

Three Critters was next, again with 1 shot for each of the three critters. John Marhefka and JP Sherkus both shot 30 for top score. Mike Rodzianko was close behind with 29X just nipping Art Twichell at 29. And Mike Rybak scored 22.

Last at 25 yards was the Buffalo for 5 shots. Certain people seem to delight in making scoring a challenge. Mike Rodzianko and JP Sherkus both scored 47 to lead the pack. John Marhefka gave chase at 45 and Dwight Hlustick wasn’t far behind with 42. Then Al Short wrapped up the 40’s, with a 40.

AT 50 YARDS:

The Groundhog Head came back at 50 yards for 3 shots. JP Sherkus clearly took First Place with a 30. No question about John Marhefka taking Second Place with 27. Then there can’t be any argument about Frank Niccoli’s 26 for Third Place. But Al Short and Mike Rodzianko both shot 18 for the Fourth slot.

The final target was the Standing Groundhog for 5-shots. It was also the designated NMLRA “50 Pin” target for the match. One target at each match will be designated as the “50 Pin” target. Anyone shooting a score of 50 will receive a NMLRA Charter Club 50 Pin. This big target must have been too close because the top score was 37 belonging to Kevin Collins. Close behind at 36 was John Marhefka. Next was JP Sherkus with 34 and then Dwight Hlustick with 30.

Being an Aggregate Match all individual scores were tallied , checked, summed, averaged and the standard deviations calculated. The winner of the match, with a score of 171, is ……… drum roll ……… JOHN MARHEFKA!!!! A full 10 points behind with 161 and Second Place is JP Sherkus. Third Place with 134XX is Mike Rodzianko while 131 by Kevin Collins took Fourth Place. Then came Dwight Hlustick, Frank Niccoli, Art Twichell, Mike Rybak, Al Short, Liam Connor and Tony Sucher.

The next match will be January 21, 2018. It will be an INDIVIDUAL Target Competition. The match fee will be $20. You get 3 of each rifle target and, if competing, three pistol targets.

November 2017 Turkey Shoot Match Results

NEWS and SHOOT RESULTS

The 2017 Turkey Shoot will join the match February 2015 match (-10°F) where wiping patches froze in the bore and patches stuck to the roundball as they flapped down range. There was another match like that, and one where we had to shovel our way to the 25 yard line through the snow. Why? You ask… It wasn’t that cold, but you felt it. Roundballs were key holing in the 35 mph winds and you were in danger of hitting your neighbor’s target 6 feet away.

Sixteen of THE BEST showed up to dare the elements and via for Top Shot. We even had a newcomer—welcome to Kevin Collins!!! A brave soul!!!

Due to the high winds, it was decided that all targets would be shot at 25 yards.

Targets and Results

As befitting the event the first target was 3-shots at the Black Turkey. This was also designated as the hardest target for tie breaker. First Place went to JP Sherkus with a 26. Right behind for Second Place with a respectable 25 was Trevor Evans. Third Place belonged to Jim Ellis with 24. Then Mike Rodzianko took Fourth Place with a 23.

Next was the target with Three Turkey Heads, one shot per head. It seemed there was a definite advantage to larger caliber rifles. JP Sherkus took First Place with an incredible (impossible?) 30 and 1X. Second Place went to Mike Rybak with a 26 and Third Place went to John Marhefka with 25. Dwight Hlustick got a 23 and took Fourth Place.

The realistic looking White Turkey was the third 3-shot target of the day. Al Short pounced on this one with a 29 1X for First Place while Mike Rodzianko took Second Place with a 28 2X. There must have been a lull in the wind because Jim Ellis took Third Place with 28 and Mikel Kingsley took Fourth with 27.

Mikel (Mike) is our Vice President’s, Mike (Max) Kingsley’s son. Confused?? Try keeping score.

The Black Turkey Head, normally used at 50 yards, was up for 5-shots. Our newest member and participant, Kevin Collins, took First Place with a 49 1X score. Way to start, Kevin!!! Second Place went to John Marhefka with a 49. Tony Sucher won Third Place with 48 3X and Frank Niccoli was in Fourth Place with 48.

The final target of the day was the White Turkey Head for 5 shots. JP Sherkus surged back to win First Place with a 50 1X. John Marhefka was in Second Place with 48 2X while Mike Rodzianko was only an X behind at 48 1X for Third Place. Tony Sucher took Fourth Place with 46 beating Mikel Kingsley having a hit closer to the X.

There was no pistol competition at this match. Pistol Competitions will resume with the December Match.

Overall Results

TOP SHOT honors go to JP Sherkus with a 178 5-X score. That’s pretty impressive for the wind conditions we were fighting. Just as impressive were Mike Rodzianko in Second Place with 164 3-X, and John Marhefka in Third Place with 160 2-X. Fourth Place was won by Tony Sucher with 156 3-X followed by Dwight Hlustick (155 2-X), Jim Ellis (154 X), Mike Rybak (150) beating Mikel Kingsley (150) with a better Black Turkey tie breaker score. Then came Kevin Collins (147 3-X), Trevor Evans 145 X), Max Kingsley (141 2-X), Al Short (134 X), Frank Niccoli (112), CC Arpin 93), John Arpin (83), and Art Twichell (23).

Please note that Mikel Kingsley out shot his father Max Kingsley AND CC Arpin shot better than her husband John.

Many Thanks to Art Twichell and Frank Niccoli for taking time out from their competition to go and get the turkeys for our prizes.

Welcome to Our Guests

IN ADDITION, Art had two young ladies who he was introducing to black powder and muzzle loaders. One was Hanna, his niece and the other, Marie, was a friend of his niece. Marie is a Coastie!!!! Thank you for your service!

Usually does not mean always. :o) and our Schutzenmeister promises something “interesting”. Cue the evil laughter…

Keep yer powder dry.

October Shoot Results

Our Schuetzenmeister was down for the count with the “bug” that seems to be going around. So El Presidente selected a handful of targets to challenge our skills. He will NEVER be allowed near the
target cabinet unsupervised again.

At 25 yards the first target was Vertigo for 5 shots. Mike Rybak wasn’t dizzied a bit and scored 45 for First Place. Art Twichell followed with 41. Long Lost Bob Speegle took Third Place with 40. Welcome back Bob!! And Tony Sucher scored 39 to claim Fourth Place.

The Diamond was the second target for 3 shots. Tony Sucher claimed First Place with 28XX. MikeRybak was right behind with 28. Jim Ellis edged out Rich Wolverton with a closer to center shot at 27to take Third leaving Rich in Fourth. Welcome back to you too Rich.

Last was a new Coiled Snake for 3 shots. Pete Hanson (Welcome back to you too, Pete!!) nailed the snake for 27 points and First Place. Second Place went to Tony Sucher with 27 also, but not as close to
the center. A 26 brought Mike Rodzianko to Third Place while Al Short took Fourth with 26.

At 50 yards two 25-yard targets were selected. First was the Road Kill Armadillo for 3 shots. Five people could see the target and scored well. Eagle Eyes went to Mike Rodzianko and Rich Wolverton.
Both had 26 but Mike was a tad closer to the X square so he was First Place and Rich took Second. HawkEyes went to Pete Hansen and Art Twichell with 18. Pete was closer to the X square than Art so he took
Third leaving Art in an enviable Fourth. (Pigeon eyes went to Frank Niccoli with 16) The rest of us justfloated numbers.

The final target of the match was the Standing Buffalo for 5 shots. First Place belonged to RichWolverton with an impressive 41. Frank Niccoli was close behind in Second with 37. MikeRodzianko was chasing hard with 36X and Third Place while Mike Rybak was Fourth with 36.

There were 4 shooters in the hotly contested Pistol Match. Mike Rodzianko said he’d learned how toshoot his pistol and turned in an impressive 48 at 25 yards. Trevor Evans was right behind at 44. Mike
Rybak had a 41X while Rich Wolverton had 38.

At 50 yards Trevor Evans proved consistent with another 44 totaling 88 and First Place. MikeRodzianko did 38 for an 86 total and Second Place. Mike Rybak scored 40 for 81X total and Third Place. Rich Wolverton scored37 for a 75 total and Fourth place.

The TOP SHOT of the day with a 150 was Rich Wolverton. Mike Rodzianko was Second with 147X while Frank Niccoli took Third with 134. Fourth was Mike Rybak also at 134, but Frank had a better
Armadillo target. At Fifth was Tony Sucher with 131XX. Then Pete Hanson, Art Twichell, Jim Ellis,
Bob Speegle, Al Short and Trevor Evans. (Trevor was trying out a new to him Flea Market Special Rifle
he’d just found)

September 2017 News and Shoot Results

Announcement: Need Help with Turkey Shoot Prizes:

It’s early, but it needs planning. We need someone to arrange for the November shoot turkeys. This means going to the Centrewood Plaza Giant Food Store, and arranging with the Meat Department Manager for number of frozen turkeys to be available for pick up the morning of November 19th. Contact me if you can do it.

September Shoot Results:

It was a beautiful day for a match but only 8 competitors dodged “Honey Do Lists” to make the shoot. Or maybe it was the Schutzenmeister’s promise of a 100 yard target.

At 25 yards for 3 shots was the Standing Groundhog. First Place belonged firmly to Art Twichell with a 28. JP Sherkus was close behind with 27. Then came John Marhefka with 26 and Casey Rybak with 24.

Then there was the 3 Critters for one shot each. Again Art Twichell showed the way with a 20. John Marhefka was Second with a 17 and a better group than Frank Niccoli’s 17 for Third. JP Sherkus rounded out the winners with a 10.

At 50 yards for 3 shots was the Groundhog Head. Art Twichell was having an excellent day and scored 27 for First. JP Sherkus scored 20 for Second and had a better group than Frank Niccoli at 20 and Third. John Marhefka took Fourth with an 18.

The Pheasant took 5 shots at 50 yards. JP Sherkus scored a whopping 34X for First Place. John Marhefka scored a respectable 28 for Second. Third belonged to Mike Rodzianko with 19 and a better group than Art Twichell at 19 and Fourth.

AND AT 100 YARDS FOR 5 SHOTS was the Buffalo. JP Sherkus scored 30 to take First Place. Frank Niccoli was close with 26 and Second. Art Twichell scored 25 for Third and John Marhefka took Fourth with 24.

Four Pistol shooters entered the fray. It was a close contest from the beginning. JP turned in a 47X at 25 yards but John was close with 46. Mike (Elder) added 43 and Mike (Younger) kept it anyones game with 41. At 50 yards John was first to turn in a 41. Mike (Elder) did 21 while Mike (Younger) did 39. Then JP tossed a 41X into the pile. FIRST PLACE = JP Serkus with 88XX. Second Place = John Marhefka with 87. Third Place = Mike Rybak at 80 and Fourth Place Mike Rodzianko with 64.

Although Art Twichell took first place in 4 of the 5 matches, his total score of 119 was second to JP Sherkus with 121X. A very close finish. And John Marhefka was Third with 113 while Frank Niccoli was Fourth with an even 100. Following along were Mike Rodzianko, Casey Rybak, Al Short and Mike Rybak. It is important to note that Casey beat Mike. YEAH, CASEY !!!!

The next match will be October 15th. It will be an Aggregate Target Competition. Entry fee is $20. You get 3 of each rifle target and, if competing, 3 of each pistol target. Score your own, hand in your best. Please, do not stock pile or delay handing in your targets. You have 3 of each. After you shoot your best score of the thee and score your own, turn it in so we can keep the score sheet current. All shots are from the free-standing, off-hand position.
